Kenny Choi shares the news anchoring duties with Yunji de Nies, Monday through Friday at 10 p.m. Kenny came to KITV in 2010 to join the weekday morning crew.
Reporting is also part of Kenny’s day. He says it’s his chance to engage with viewers face to face.
Kenny covered the 2010 primary and general elections and anchored coverage of Governor Neil Abercrombie’s inauguration since joining the KITV team.
His journalism career got a jump-start during his undergraduate years at UCLA. That’s when Kenny worked for the Daily Bruin Newspaper and for The Bruin News, the local news station for the UCLA community. Kenny came to Hawaii from New York where he worked for Sportsnet New York as an anchor and reporter. Prior to that he worked at Fox23 News in Tulsa, Okla., KTBZ-1430 Radio, and KVEW-TV in Kennewick, Wash.
When he’s not working, Kenny is always looking for the next best surfing spot, cycling up and down hills in Hawaii, lowering his handicap, and perfecting his tennis swing.
As an active member of his community, Kenny has worked with the Special Olympics, the Boys and Girls Club, among other organizations. He also serves on the American Lung Association of Hawaii’s Council and is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
