Paula Akana anchors KITV4 News at 5 and 6 Monday through Friday.
She also produces special reports on a regular basis—tackling subjects that range from sustainability in Hawaii to families living in the path of the Big Island’s growing lava flow to Island efforts to beat breast cancer. Paula is the 2011 Honorary Chairperson for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
She also recently sat down for a one-on-one interview with well known national medical expert Dr. Mehmet Oz, better known as "Dr. Oz."
Paula began her career at KITV as an intern in 1983.
Along with her news duties, Paula hosts the Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Competition.
She has also produced numerous specials for KITV highlighting hula, music and the voyages of the canoe Hokule'a.
She has been recognized with the "Manu a Ka'ae" award for use of the Hawaiian Language by the 'Ahahui 'Olelo Hawai'i.
Paula is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She volunteers for the Polynesian Voyaging Society and is a Metro board member for the YMCA.
