An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday for a Big Island baby that is at the center of an investigation.
An unresponsive 19-month-old girl was taken to Hilo Medical Center on Jan. 2. Police were called in when doctors determined the child had injuries that were regarded as suspicious.
Police arrested a 36-year-old Hilo man on charges of first-degree assault. They released him two days later pending further investigation.
Medical personnel took the baby to Queen's Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment. The child, identified as Pomaikai Ferreira, died Sunday night, police said.
