HONOLULU -

A 21-year-old man charged with manslaughter for the death of a North Carolina man made his first appearance in court on Friday.

Less Schnabel Jr. punched Christopher Reuther in the left ear without being provoked last month at Zablan Beach Park in Nanakuli, according to court documents.

A witness said that a picture snapped late that night sparked Schnabel's anger.

Reuther died two days later from the head injury.

Reuther went looking for a place to camp after going to a luau on the Leeward Coast and stopped at Zablan Beach Park, court documents also said.

Schnabel's family members told KITV that Schnabel is a good person who would never kill someone.

They said they do not know what happened that night, but they said Schnabel is very shaken right now.

Schnabel is also charged with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.

A judge set bail at $100,000.
