Vehicle hurricane tips

It may not be a first thought when preparing for a hurricane, but getting a vehicle prepared is important.

Motorists should be sure cars are in good shape before a storm hits, and the vehicle's title should be kept in a safe and dry place.

The vehicle's gas tank should also be filled.

During and after the storm, drivers should avoid roads that can't be clearly seen. Potholes could damage a vehicle and leave the driver stranded.

Take down items stored in the garage above the car if you plan to keep it there through the storm.

Covering a car with a thick padding or tarp -- even if it is in the garage -- will help ensure the vehicle is protected from wind-blown debris.
