A state judge on Thursday ordered a 37-year-old Waimea man to stand trial in the death of a 3-year-old girl in his care.

WAIMEA, Hawaii -

A state judge ordered a 37-year-old Waimea man Thursday to stand trial in the death of a 3-year-old girl in his care.

Ezekiel Wakinekona was charged with manslaughter.

The medical examiner says Marley Makanani died of brain damage due to near drowning along with head trauma due to child abuse.

She died Sunday in Honolulu.

Big Island police found her unresponsive in a bath tub in Wakinekona's home Friday night.

Makanani had been left with Wakinekona by her mother who needed time to get her life together.

The state took custody of her two sisters after they showed signs of abuse.

At a preliminary hearing in Waimea Thursday Judge Melvin Fujino raised Wakinekona's bail to $500,000.
