While celebrities sometimes drive race cars on television shows or movies, some actually drive them in real-life, too.
Check out these celebrity racecar drivers:
James Dean: Actor James Dean loved racing cars and loved going fast. He knew many professional drivers and it was said he had a talent for car racing. He owned a Porsche Spyder, which he raced just months before his death.
Patrick Dempsey: “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey is an avid racer, having competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Rolez 24 at Daytona. He is the lead driver and owner of Dempsey Racing.
George Lucas: “Star Wars” creator George Lucas raced an Autobianchi Bianchina in a circuit as a teenager. An accident derailed his racing dreams, but he is still an avid racing fan and sometimes participates in celebrity events.
Stephen Moyer: “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer says his love of racing dates back to his teen years. In 2011 he competed in the Toyota Pro Celebrity Race, where his car flipped over. He walked away from the accident without injury.
Frankie Muniz: Actor Frankie Muniz, who played in “Malcolm in the Middle,” put his acting career on hold to instead pursue a career as a race car driver.
Paul Newman: Legendary actor Paul Newman played a race car driver in the film “Winning,” and his interest grew from there. He raced competitively starting in 1972 and also co-owned a racing team.
