Soap star goes from stand-up padding to dancing
Actor Ingo Rademacher, who was born in Germany and lived in Australia, has been living on Oahu's North Shore for the past seven years.
Rademacher is a competitive stand-up paddler.
As for the "Dancing With The Stars" competition, he says he can handle this different type of ride.
Rademacher is best known for his part as Jax on ABC's "General Hospital." Now he's stepping into a new role.
KITV obtained EXCLUSIVE home video of Rademacher and his professional dance partner, two-time "Dancing With The Stars" champion Kym Johnson. Last week, the two practiced their contemporary dance at the Turtle Bay Resort.
Rademacher says dancing is just like stand-up paddling.
"The stand-up paddling skills, they kinda come into play a little bit with dancing because of the lunging that you do during surfing," said Rademacher.
Rademacher took Johnson stand-up paddling and she loves practicing in paradise.
"Oh my gosh. I'm the luckiest person ever on 'Dancing With The Stars.' I get to come to Hawaii -- rehearse," said Johnson.
For Rademacher, rehearsal is a family affair. His wife, local girl Ehiku, whom he met at Waimea Bay, was there to watch along with their 4-year-old son Peanut Kai and baby boy Pohaku Zen.
While focused on his dance moves and the competition, this waterman still has a "side eye" on the surf.
