HONOLULU -

The National Weather Service says a flash flood watch for Oahu and Kauai has been extended until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say lingering instability combined with increased moisture moving in from the east overnight will bring the potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms for Oahu and Kauai.

The greatest threat for flooding rainfall will be late Monday night across the windward and mauka areas.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.  Flash flooding is very dangerous.  It does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur.

Avoid camping or hiking near streams and low-lying flood-prone areas.
