HILO, Hawaii -

Big Island police say Highway 19 was closed Monday from the 26-mile marker to the 36-mile marker due to severe flooding on the Hamakua Coast.

Originally, the closure affected the area of the 34-mile marker.  Police say there was flooding, debris and other road hazards on the Hamakua Coast.

Just after 10:15 a.m. on Monday, police say Highway 19 at the 25-mile marker in Laupahoehoe was also closed.  One viewer captured this photo in that area.

Just before noon, police announced the highway was reopened.
