HONOLULU -

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf warning for Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Molokai until 6 a.m. Saturday.

There is also a high surf advisory posted for the Leeward Coast of Oahu until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Forecasters say the large northwest swell arrived at Kauai and will continue to spread across north and west-facing shores of Oahu and Maui County.

Surf along north-facing shores should rise to 20-to-25-feet heights Friday night.  The surf is expected to build rapidly in the early evening and peak later in the night.

Expect strong breaking waves, significant shore break and strong rip currents to make swimming dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
