High surf advisory issued for most north, east shores

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory from midnight Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday for the in north and east shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii.

Forecasters said surf of 10-to-15 feet is possible along north-facing shores and six-to-10 feet along east-facing shores.

The short-period north-northeast swell will build peak on Sunday, according to forecasters, who expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong long-shore and rip currents to make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
