HANA, Hawaii -

Sky Pierce shot video on Maui that shows the power and danger of a flash flood.

The dry stream bed above Waioka Pond in Hana turned into a raging rapids within a matter of seconds last week.

Pierce says he could hear the water coming so he took out his camera.

"Any given day, it's probably dry.  It's the kind of river that is either flash flooding or it's dry," said Pierce.

Pierce explained that the area he shot is where most people climb out of the pond when they're done swimming.

"So, if you were in the pond when the river started flowing, your only way out would be to get washed out to sea," said Pierce.

The Hana resident also says flash floods wash through the area fairly frequently.
