More thunderstorms with hail possible Sunday night
The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a special weather statement warning the public of frequent dangerous lightning, small hail and locally heavy rain Sunday night.
A small thunderstorm moved down the windward coast of Oahu from Laie to Kailua Sunday afternoon, dumping heavy rain and rice-sized hail.
Forecasters said scattered thunderstorms are moving toward the southeast around 10 to 15 mph and that dangerous conditions are possible with the strongest storms.
KITV4 Chief Meteorologist Justin Fujioka said, "A very unstable airmass has moved in, but due to a lack of moisture and lack of humidity, widespread thunderstorm activity is not likely."
"Expect more of a hit-or-miss situation with clear and dry conditions in some areas, and spotty showers, downpours and thunderstorms just a few miles away, especially in windward and mountain areas," he said.
Fujioka said the unstable airmass may linger in our area through Wednesday.
