The Honolulu Festival returns for its 20th year.
The kickoff to the celebration was held in Waikiki Tuesday afternoon. The goal of the festival is to celebrate the strong cultural and ethnic ties between people of Asia-Pacific and Hawaii.
Several Hawaii visitors say they have noticed Hawaii's diverse cultures.
"We've ridden the city bus and everyone gets along and we hear all different languages, but somehow everyone communicates. We've had a great time," said Willatta Baker from California.
Since 1995, the festival has been a major contributor to Hawaii's tourism. Organizers say in its first 19 years, the festival has brought in tens of thousands of visitors and generated about $175 million.
The festival starts on March 8.
