HONOLULU -

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for Maui County until midnight Wednesday.

Winds are from the northwest to north at 20 to 35 mph with localized gusts over 40 mph.

The strongest winds will affect Lanai and parts of Maui's Central Valley.

Winds will remain near minimal advisory criteria into the evening hours and diminishing by late evening.

Winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected.  Motorists should use extra caution.
