Hawaii is one of 47 states nationwide deciding to opt out of using "pink slime" in school lunch meat.

A controversy erupted in March when an ABC News investigation revealed the ammonia-treated beef filler was not labeled in many meat products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture maintains it is safe.  However, Hawaii education officials have decided to opt out of using it next school year.
