Man hit by train Kansas

A man hit by a train in South Topeka on Thursday night was able to walk away from the incident.

Authorities were called just before 6:30 p.m. to the tracks off South Topeka Boulevard, Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones told WIBW.

The BNSF train's conductor told authorities the crew saw a man walking on the tracks. Authorities said the crew blew the horn to warn him, and when he didn't move, they hit the emergency brakes.

Authorities said the crew noticed injuries to the man's leg but he kept walking, eventually getting into a car.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office identified the man as 25-year-old Kristopher Wenberg of Topeka. They said he was treated at the hospital for cuts to his leg and shoulder.

Authorities said Wenberg told them he was wearing headphones and didn't hear the train.
