A mother is warning others after her daughter is shot in an armed robbery in Bay View.

Roller derby player Christina Huth is in stable condition at Froedtert Hospital, recovering from the attack.

It's a big relief for her mom, who said her daughter just wants to get better and back on her skates.

"Well, any dreaded call that any parent would definitely not want to get," Bonnie Huth said.

Huth received a call early Sunday morning that her daughter Christina was shot in her Bay View neighborhood after an armed robbery.

"The nurse was very good, informing us that she was alert and talking, so at least that was a comfort to us but it was a very long ride, a very long ride," bonnie Huth said.

Huth said Christina left a Halloween party early Sunday morning and stopped at the Sugar Maple bar to say hi to some friends.

It was on the way home with a friend when Christina was shot in the chest after telling a robber she had no money.

"She did not think that would ever happen in her neighborhood. She did feel safe there," Bonnie Huth said.

Now this mother is warning Bay View residents and others to be aware.

"No matter how safe you are, and what area you are in, you feel safe, it's not always so. It happens everywhere," Bonnie Huth said.

She's also hoping to see her daughter get back on her game.

"Yes, that's one of the first things she said is 'Am I going to be (able) to do roller derby this year,'" Huth said.

Her mom said it will probably be another six months before her daughter can play again.

The team issued a statement saying it's deeply saddened by all this.

Milwaukee police have no one in custody yet.
