TAMPA, Fla. -

A pedestrian who was struck by a passing vehicle's mirror assaulted the driver when he stopped to check on him, deputies said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened early Wednesday near Tampa.

Deputies said Chuckarat Ratanakarn, 41, stopped to see if Philip Jackson, 26, was OK after he realized his vehicle hit him. That's when Jackson punched him in the face. Deputies said Jackson continued hitting the victim and demanding his wallet.

An arrest report said Jackson went through the victim's car looking for anything of value before brandishing a handgun. He fled into an apartment.

Deputies quickly surrounded the apartment and arrested Jackson on multiple charges.

He was treated for minor injuries and taken to jail. The victim was also treated.
