Red Cross opens service center for Big Sur fire victims

CARMEL, Calif. -

The American Red Cross began working with local officials to help those evacuated by the wildfire in Big Sur and opened a service center on Tuesday.

Volunteers were on the scene to provide food, support and information to the displaced residents on Monday. 

The Red Cross said it will provide assistance at its center at 10 a.m. Tuesday until 7 p.m. at the Fernwood Resort Big Sur, 47200 Highway 1, in Big Sur. The center will be open daily for the next few days. 

An evacuation center that opened Monday morning at the Grange Hall will close. 

The following hotels and resorts are also opening their doors to those who have been displaced by the fire:

- Fernwood Resort, 831-667-2422

- Big Sur Lodge, 831-667-3100
