Timothy Hunter is accused of attacking his wife during a staged home invasion.

A 27-year-old Volusia County woman was bloodied in a slashing attack at her home Wednesday night at the hands of a masked intruder.

Who was the man behind the mask? Deputies believe it was her husband.

Deputies said Timothy Hunter, 29, told them he ran an errand and came home to see shadowy figures fleeing from his home. He said he found his wife had been cut on her face and hands.

Deputies said that story just doesn’t make sense.

“There were no shadowy figures in the yard. The man behind the mask who cut up his wife was Hunter himself,” Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Gary Davidson said in a prepared statement.

The woman told deputies that her husband left their Steward Terrace home in Deltona with their baby while she stayed home with their two other children.

She said she heard a noise and then a man burst into her bedroom, pushed her onto the floor and began demanding money as he slashed her with a sharp object.

Hunter returned to the home and called 911 to report the attack, but during questioning he confessed, deputies said.

Hunter said he was mad at his wife for cheating, according to a news release. He said he used a piece of metal in the attack, which he disposed of before washing the clothes he wore.

Deputies said that Hunter claimed he intended to scare his wife. Her injuries were treated at the scene.

Hunter faces charges of aggravated battery and tampering with evidence.
