Wildcat Red was among those stuck in traffic following an accident in Martin County on Tuesday afternoon.

The southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike are closed between Palm City and Kanner Highway after a truck struck the Kanner Highway Bridge.

WPBF 25 News' John Dzenitis reported that one lane of traffic was open in each direction on the northbound side of the turnpike.

Crews are waiting for an inspector with the Florida Department of Transportation to arrive and assess the integrity of the bridge. Officials said the traffic headaches could last until 6 p.m.

Among those stuck in the congestion was a trailer carrying Wildcat Red, the 18th-place horse in Saturday's Kentucky Derby.

The thoroughbred's home track is Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.

Because of the heat, Martin County Fire Rescue crews were spraying the horse with cool water.
