Here's a little background on the Mother Waldron Playground after a federal judge mentioned it in his rail ruling.
The park is named for Margaret Waldron, who in the 1930’s was a school teacher and director of the nearby Atkinson Park.
She was known as the "saint of Kakaako." Photo from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin on July 26, 1922.
Mother Waldron was credited with turning Kakaako youth gang members into law-abiding citizens through her playground work.
