Honolulu police say a Mililani man is dead after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Valkenburgh Street and Kamehameha Highway Monday morning.
It happened just after 4 a.m. Investigators say a Jeep, traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway, broadsided a Chevy sedan that was traveling south on Valkenburgh Street and was driving through the intersection.
The driver of the Chevy was ejected from the vehicle and landed about 25 feet from the collision.
The driver of the Chevy sedan was taken to Tripler Army Medical Center in extremely critical condition, where he later died.
Honolulu police closed the lanes in the area of the crash while officers investigated the cause of the collision.
The lanes were reopened by 8 a.m.
The medical examiner identified the man who died as 20-year-old Mark Spofford from Mililani.
This is the 15th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared with 16 at this same time last year.
