The state Department of Transportation closed the right lane of the H-1 Freeway Monday to fix drainage problems that led to the road needing repairs.
The School St. on-and-off-ramps were still open.
At least one lane on the H-1 freeway in the west-bound direction near the Ward Ave. overpass was also closed. But, the traffic was backed up in the east-bound direction as well.
That's because the two right lanes on the Punahou Street off-ramp were closed due to city road work.
There was more city road work on Pensacola Street and Beretania Street that backed up traffic on Lunalilo Street which also affected the traffic on the freeway.
It appears the city is constructing the sidewalk at this intersection.
Although the lanes on the freeway opened up in the afternoon, the backlog of traffic continued into the afternoon rush hour.
The state Department of Transportation says the coning of the left lane in the westbound direction near the Ward Avenue overpass was supposed a traffic-calming measure ahead of the road work.
The traffic-calming measure is usually done at night. The DOT says it was a bad call to do it during the day.
