Honolulu police say an officer found a body on Kalanianaole Highway just before 2:30 a.m. Friday.
At first, police thought it was a hit-and-run. It is now classified as a suspicious death.
Police say the teen was with his friends and his brother at Sandy Beach Park.
The people who was with the teen do not know how he ended up on the road.

Kalanianaole Highway was closed between Kealahou Street and Sandy Beach until around 5:30 a.m.
There were beer cans and other debris in the area where friends and family of the victim gathered.
The medical examiner identified the teen as 17-year-old Boyd Shiro Maycry of Kalihi.
Maycry died from head injuries, according to the medical examiner.
