Flowers are at the spot where 16-year-old Reid Krucky suffered a fatal head injury while skateboarding in Hawaii Kai.
Krucky's classmates at Kaiser High School said he was a skilled skateboarder, an overall athlete and a nice guy.
"Everyone wore black to commemorate him and add posters to the side of the stairs where we used to hang out. There's a memorial there," said close friend Egon Karamehmedovic.
"It's quieter than usual, we don't know how to react to something like this," said Kaiser High School junior Kason Padilla.
"He thought he was having fun and no one was thinking of safety precautions," said friend William McAndrew. Police say Krucky was holding onto a moving moped while on a skateboard. That's when he fell and hit his head on the ground.
The principal at Kaiser High School said there were additional counselors on campus the day after the tragic event.
"I saw a lot of people go to them and I know a lot didn't go too, but we have each other to go to," said Padilla.
