2 more strong quakes near Russia; no tsunami threat

EWA BEACH, Hawaii -

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Friday that there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii after two more strong earthquakes shook near Russia and the Kuril Islands.

The strongest quake happened at around 3:21 a.m. HST with a magnitude of 6.7 and a depth of 19.7 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.  The epicenter was 57 miles southeast of Ozernovskiy, Russia.  Earlier in the day, there was an earthquake in the same area with a magnitude of 6.5.

This the second straight day of earthquakes in the area that are magnitude 6.5 or greater.
