KALAHEO, Hawaii -

A two-car crash that occurred Monday on Kaumuali'i Highway in Kalaheo snarled traffic for morning commuters, according to Kauai police.

The incident happened at around 5:30 a.m., fronting Holy Cross Church, when a Nissan pickup truck attempted to make a left turn into the church from the westbound lane and collided with an oncoming Jeep SUV.

The driver of the pickup, an 86-year-old Kalaheo woman, sustained a laceration to her right arm. She was treated and released by medics at the scene.

The male driver of the Jeep SUV, age 42 of Hanapepe, did not report any injuries.

The crash caused the two vehicles to become locked together in the eastbound lane of Kaumuali'i Highway.

Police directed alternating traffic flow until the vehicles could be towed from the scene at approximately 7 a.m.
