3 OTS credit union employees charged with embezzlement

HONOLULU -

Three employees of the OTS Employees Federal Credit Union were charged Wednesday with embezzlement and misapplication of funds from the credit union, according to the FBI.

One of the employees was also charged with making false entries into the records of the credit union.

The OTS Employees Federal Credit Union is the federally-insured financial institution associated with TheBus on Oahu and provides banking services to employees.  The office is at 811 Middle Street.

Dona Takushi, 54, of Honolulu is a former manager/CEO and was charged with two counts of embezzlement and one count of false entries.  The total amount of her alleged fraud is $114,410.  Takushi faces up to 90 years in prison.

Nicole Cheung, 34, of Honolulu is a former loan officer and was charged with one count of embezzlement.  The amount of her alleged fraud is $16,732.  Cheung faces up to 30 years in prison.

Jenny Nishida, 41, of Pearl City is a former teller and was charged with one count of embezzlement.  The amount of her alleged fraud is $358,685.  Nishida faces up to 30 years in prison.

Gloria Omandam, the new CEO/Manager of OTS Employees FCU, released the following statement:

"The Credit Union, with the assistance of the FBI, has been investigating alleged misconduct against the Credit Union. The Credit Union has conducted an extensive independent audit to assure its safety and soundness. No member suffered a loss, and any loss suffered by the Credit Union has been recouped (other than investigative costs). Accounts at the Credit Union are insured by the federal National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund to the full extent provided by law."

None of the employees were arrested by the FBI.  They will each surrender prior to their initial appearances in U.S. District Court.
