Police said six sisters and another female relative are responsible for multiple burglaries at area hospitals.

A group of sisters is accused of committing brazen crimes, and it was all caught on camera.

St. Matthews police said the Jefferson family stole wallets from hospitals and doctor's offices.

Police said the string of thefts has been going on for the past few months.

They were able to arrest one of those sisters, Lashonda Jefferson, Tuesday. Now, they're looking for her siblings.

Detectives said the Jeffersons made theft a family business.

"Keeping it in the family like this is probably pretty rare, but they're all family members," said St. Matthews police Detective Tony Ford.

Police said the sisters stole from so many hospitals and doctor's offices that they were caught on camera multiple times.

In a surveillance video from just before Christmas, two women were seen walking into Baptist Hospital. Moments later, three more go in.

Police said it's all a part of their typical theft, storming in and targeting women by looking for purses and snatching wallets.

"There's actually so many. The only thing that we can even say is multiple charges are coming," said Ford.

Police said they'll also be charged for using stolen credit cards to go on extravagant shopping sprees.

A shopping cart overflowing with everything from electronics to baby clothes in another surveillance video was just a fraction of the things police said they bought.

"They would go pretty quickly and charge up thousands of dollars worth of items on their cards," said Ford.

In total, police say they spent $15,000 to $20,000, and they went by undetected, their identities unknown, until now.

"We have made one arrest. This young lady right here," said Ford.

Jefferson was arrested at an apartment complex. It was a big break police hope will only get bigger. Now that they've put a family face on the string of crime.

Police said the women also tried to steal at Kosair Children's Hospital and they may have possibly hit St. Mary's.

There's no exact number yet on how many thefts the women are tied to, but police said it's definitely more than 10.

Police said they face charges for burglary and for fraudulent use of a credit card.

One of the sisters, Dannika Jefferson, is actually also wanted by the U.S. Marshals Office in Virginia and by the Secret Service for probation reasons.
