Eight passengers were stuck on the monorail at Pearlridge Center after two power systems failed Monday.
It happened at about 7:30 p.m. The Honolulu Fire Department says four adults and four children were on board. No one was in distress or injured.
Crews rescued the stranded passengers one by one down a ladder. They were stuck in the cart for over an hour, according to fire officials.
Mall officials say both the main and backup power systems failed. It is unknown how or when it failed.
This is the first time the backup power system has failed since the monorail first ran in 1977. The mall's lead technicians are working overnight to assess the problem.
The monorail will likely be out of service Tuesday.
