An 8-year-old Lanai girl is recovering after being shot with a pellet gun Wednesday.
Maui police say the girl was in a pasture when she was hit and the pellet got stuck in her head.
The little girl was taken to the Lanai Community Clinic where she was treated and released.
Authorities say she was not trespassing.
The incident remains under investigation as officials try to determine who fired the shot and whether the girl was the intended target.
Police say they want to remind anyone using air guns to be mindful of the surroundings and that juveniles operating air guns should be supervised by a responsible adult.
