The man accused of shooting and killing a Makaha man pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter Tuesday.
Chad Duran was about to go on trial for the death of 26-year-old Christopher Medeiros in Makaha last September.
According to court documents, Duran confessed to the crime after he was found a few blocks from the shooting scene.
Duran also pleaded guilty to using a firearm. He will be sentenced to an open 20-year term, according to prosecutors. The court will determine the maximum amount of time that will be served.
The Hawaii Paroling Authority will determine his minimum sentence before he's eligible for parole.
