The bodies of two executed men featured in Truman Capote's book "In Cold Blood" have been exhumed, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Agents obtained and executed a search warrant to exhume the bodies of Perry Smith and Richard Hickock to collect samples for DNA testing.

Smith and Hickock were convicted and executed by the state of Kansas for the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Finney County.

The search warrant was issued to help the Sarasota County, Fla., Sheriff's Office with an investigation into a similar 1959 quadruple homicide.

"The Sarasota homicides
occurred about a month after the Holcomb homicides, and there may be a connection," said Kyle Smith of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

There are claims that the pair were on the run in Florida in Dec. 1959.

The two were arrested in Las Vegas in 1960.  They were convicted and executed in 1965.

Smith said it may take only a few weeks to see if there's a DNA match between the pair and the cases in Florida.
