Knockout blow

Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao shocked the world Sunday when he was knocked out cold by his longtime rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

Already their fourth rematch and Marquez's fourth attempt to regain his standing, many bet that Pacquiao would win again until the unexpected happened.

On the sixth round, Mexican boxer Marquez unleashed a right decisive punch that left the Filipino boxer unresponsive and faced down on the canvass. His counter right blow hit Pacquiao on the chin, which threw him out cold in the ring.

The full-house crowd of over 16,000 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena – attended by losing presidential hopeful Gov. Mitt Romney, basketeball player Magic Johnson and hip hop icon 50 Cent – was stunned with the unforeseen result. Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, broke down in tears and tried to get near the ringside. She was approached and consoled by promoter Bob Arum.

"I threw the perfect punch," Marquez described the knockout blow that dramatically changed the boxing landscape.

"I got hit by a punch I didn't see," Pacquiao said in his interview.

Marquez, who insisted over and over that he thinks he won in their previous bouts, seemed vindicated at the end.
