Crane operator killed in Maui industrial accident

One man is dead and Hana Highway was closed after a crane fell on a man in an industrial accident in Kahului, Maui on Oct. 23, 2012.

KAHULUI, Hawaii -

One man is dead and Hana Highway was closed after a crane fell on a man in an industrial accident in Kahului, Maui Tuesday morning.

Emergency Medical officials say that around 8:45 a.m. a man was pinned under the crane when it tilted onto its side, crushing him beneath it, as he was moving equipment in the company's base yard.

Police identified the man as 62-year-old Ronald Nakasone. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No foul play is suspected.

This happened at the Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Dealership, part of the Hawthorne Pacific Corporation at 470 Hana Highway.

Police closed down the highway in the area while they cleared the scene, which involved moving the heavy crane equipment.
