Eight hour Ewa Beach standoff ends peacefully
An eight hour standoff ended peacefully in Ewa Beach Wednesday morning after a man barricaded himself inside his home.
More than 30 swat team officers swarmed a home on Oama place Tuesday night after a 35-year-old man threatened to take his own life and set fire to the property.
Six families in nearby homes were evacuated. HPD says they've had a big jump in these types of situations.
"Unfortunately we're getting called out more often this year than normal," said Major Alexander Ahlo of the HPD SWAT team. "We just ask the residents when they call it in, to be cautious, and take precautions as necessary."
The man eventually turned himself in to police. No injuries were reported. Officials say the suspect is being taken in for a mental evaluation.
