Firefighters were called to Kaneohe Monday morning for a two-alarm house fire that sent a family racing to safety.
Crews responded to Peninsula Place just after 4 a.m.
The family of five adults and three children were home at the time of the fire. They all made it out safely, but the family dog did not, according to fire officials.
Fire officials say several generations of a family lived in the home together. A woman in her 70s is the great-grandmother to the children. A woman in her 40s is the children's grandmother. The parents of the children are in their 20s.
The blaze damage the single-story home and a separate car structure.
A neighbor was able to assist in cutting off the power to the lines that feed electricity into nearby homes.
Damage was estimated at $400,000 to the home and its contents. A neighboring home suffered $25,000 worth of damage. Two older vehicles parked at the home were destroyed. They were worth about $5,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
