Dedrick Ashford, 23, pleaded guilty to striking and killing 6-year-old Christopher Wade on April 21.

The collision occurred near the intersection of 51st Street and Meinecke Avenue.

According to the criminal complaint, Ashford told police he knew he was driving without a license and had smoked marijuana a few hours before he got behind the wheel.

According to WISN 12 News reporter Hillary Mintz, Wade's family was disgusted with the one-year sentence and began screaming and yelling.

The melee spilled into the hallway outside of the courtroom, where  several people were eventually arrested, and some were injured. The Sheriff's Department said three people are in custody.

Mintz said a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy threatened to use his Taser, but did not need to.

One deputy may have been injured, Mintz said.
