One man had a perspective on the chase he didn't want to see. He saw the victim, saw the fear in his eyes, and saw other men chasing him down. He spoke exclusively with KITV4.

HONOLULU -

Honolulu police investigate an early Friday morning murder in Kalihi.

KITV got a firsthand account from a Shell gas station employee who saw the chase, right before the murder. The employee chooses to remain anonymous for his protection.

"He went to my door and started shaking my door, so I told him that the register was this way, and then that's when, out of nowhere, there are five to seven people, shirtless, really big, a lot taller than the person with the raincoat, and they were literally surrounding this person," said the station clerk.

That's when someone shoved the man in the raincoat into the gas station door.

"It looked like a really desperate look, it looked like he really needed help," said the station clerk.

He did need help, but he managed to get away, and bolted southbound on North King Street.

The employee thought the chase was over. It wasn't -- 30 minutes later, they were back.

"I saw a guy with the same raincoat on a bike still running from the five to seven shirtless people running straight down again," said the clerk.

At that point, he said, one of the guys chasing the victim was bleeding.

"His back was full of blood, I'm not sure if that instigated the fight but regardless it looked like a seven-versus-one," said the clerk.

Badly outnumbered, the desperate man ran out of time. He was found dead with multiple stab wounds just a few blocks away at Houghtailing exit. Police have opened a homicide investigation. They believe glass shards were used to kill the man.
