Gun instructor swamped after offer to train teachers

A weapons instructor who offers teachers a discount to learn how to fire a gun said he's been swamped by the response.

Bruce Luedeman said he's been getting lots of calls since announcing his promotion to help Missouri teachers and other educators obtain concealed-carry permits in Missouri.

Heather Jochens, 19, visited Luedeman's range for the first time on Wednesday. She said she's not sure she wants a concealed weapon, but she thinks the idea of teachers with guns should be explored.

"If teachers are capable and can handle a weapon, I think they should be," she said.

"We have enough people who are trained. We need to protect our next generation," said gun instructor Joe Moran.

Luedeman said the teachers who have been taking his classes were not willing to do any on-camera interviews about it.

"Teachers are concerned about losing their jobs or being censured if they talk about guns at school," he said.

A bill permitting teachers and other educators to bring their guns to school may get a committee hearing in the Missouri Legislature soon.
