HGEA reaches tentative agreement with state
The Hawaii Government Employees Association, the largest public labor union in Hawaii, announced it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the state and all four counties.
If ratified, the two-year agreement would cover the period from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015 for Units 2, 3, and 4, which totals over 15,000 employees.
The terms of agreement include salary increases of about 4 percent each year, and a 60 percent/40 percent employer/employee split on the heath insurance premium. Units 6, 8, and 13 are still in negotiations.
Statewide ratification meetings will begin on Monday and run through Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for the Governor's office said, "We have an agreement in principle with HGEA units 2, 3, 4 and we are working with HGEA on the other units."
