Big Island police say a Hakalua woman has died in a two-car collision in North Kohala.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports that the 49-year-old woman died Saturday night at Kona Community Hospital from injuries she suffered earlier in the day.
Police say Theresa Doris Pacheco was headed south in a sedan when she swerved to avoid rear-ending another car. Police say she ended up sideswiping the right rear corner of the car and then ran off the right side of the road, where her car overturned.
The driver of the other car, a 62-year-old man from Atlanta, was not injured.
Police say Pacheco's death is the eighth traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to one at the same time last year.
