A 600-pound gorilla statue stolen from an Orlando hotel has been found, and the hotel picked it up Wednesday.

The $5,000 statue was stolen from the pool area of the Orlando Metropolitan Express Hotel along International Drive about one month ago.

WESH 2 News spoke with a man who said his friend found the statue in their neighborhood.

"I came home one day and my roommate and neighbor just started crying, laughing. I turned around and I jumped like 10 feet -- there was the gorilla on my doorstep," Giovanie Alba said.

Alba said his roommate and neighbor moved the statue to his doorstep after finding it nearby in a wooded area while one of them was walking his dog.

"My dog saw it and started growling, I never would have seen it if he wasn't with me," said Ryan Rosser.

Alba said he kept the statue until he learned it had been stolen.

"I just want to return it back to them. I didn't take it, No. 1. No. 2, I just want to return it," said Alba.

Workers from the hotel were expected to pick the statue up Wednesday and return it to the hotel; however, they refused to pick it up while the media was there.

"Get your statue out of my house," Alba told the men who arrived to pick up the statue.

Alba said he waited at home for three hours for the men to show up and was frustrated when they refused to do so.

Eventually, a flatbed tow truck came to haul the gorilla statue away. It took four men to take the statue down the stairs, but they strapped it down to the truck and took it away.
