LIHUE, Hawaii -

Kekaha Landfill and all transfer stations on Kauai are reopened Sunday.  It was closed Saturday due to severe weather.
Hanapepe Transfer Station is still limited to mixed waste only.  Greenwaste and scrape metal are not being accepted because of muddy conditions from Saturday's weather.
But good news for hikers, the Kalalau trail has been reopened after officials from Department of Land and Natural Resources assessed the conditions Sunday morning.   The trail was also closed as a precautionary action for public safety in anticipation of severe thunderstorms.
With flash flooding conditions, hikers may find themselves on the far side of flooded streams.  If this is the case, hikers are advised not to attempt to cross a flooded stream and keep to higher ground.
