The family of a man found beaten at a Kalihi bus stop is pleading with the public to come forward if they saw anything.

HONOLULU -

It was just before 5 a.m. Sunday when Carl Realista, 60, was found critically injured in Kalihi.  Police believe there are some who are remaining silent about it.  They are hoping someone will help them crack this attempted murder case.

"He's a real mellow guy.  He no bother nobody.  Keeps to himself.  He doesn't deserve this at all," said Freddie Realista, Carl's brother.

Freddie can't understand why somebody would want to beat up his younger brother.  But, it happened -- savagely -- at a bus stop near the intersection of Kalihi Street and Dillingham Boulevard.

"His whole face this side was all bust up.  His lips was real fat.  Really, really fat," said Freddie.

The bus stop is a busy one.  There's another bus stop right across the street.  It's less than two blocks away from the home Carl shares with Freddie and his wife.

They said on Sunday morning, Carl left the house at 4:30 a.m., like he has for nearly 25 years headed to his landscaping job in Liliha.

"Every day, he catches the bus.  He doesn't drive.  He don't drink.  He don't smoke.  Nothing," said Freddie.

Honolulu police believes there were a lot of eyes on that area Sunday morning.

"Through an investigation and an anonymous witness that called, we believe there were numerous people at the bus stop that morning," said Sgt. Kim Buffett from CrimeStoppers.  "In fact, as he was found, a bus had pulled up.  People loaded on the bus so we know people were there."

The Realista family is asking anyone with any information on the attack to call police.

"So this kind guys, they should be put away," said Freddie.

Family members say Carl underwent brain surgery and is in a medically-induced coma at this time.

If you recognize Carl Realista and know anything about what happened to him, call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
