King Kamehameha Day closures

  • State and city offices are closed.
  • Emergency ambulance, fire, lifeguard and police services are available.
  • All state libraries are closed.
  • Parks, municipal golf courses, the zoo and botanical gardens are open.
  • Regular refuse collections will be made and landfills/transfer stations are open.
  • TheBus is operating on a state holiday schedule. (For route and schedule information, go to, or call 848-5555.)
  • The People’s Open Markets will not be held.
  • Neal Blaisdell Box office is closed.
  • Satellite City Halls and Driver's License offices are closed.
  • Contraflow traffic lanes will not be coned.
  • On-street parking will be free, except for meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Kapiolani Park and metered parking lots


  • In observance of King Kamehameha Day, County of Kauai offices are closed on Thursday, June 11 along with all refuse transfer stations, the Kekaha Landfill, Kauai Resource Center, the Kapa'a and Waimea swimming pools and all neighborhood centers.
  • All state libraries are closed.
  • Puhi Metals Recycling Center will remain open during the holiday, as well as all HI-5 bottle redemption centers that are normally open on Thursdays, except for the Kauai Resource Center.
  • Residential refuse pick-up will continue as scheduled.
  • The Kauai Bus is operating on a modified schedule.
  • Normal business hours for county offices and services will resume on Friday, June 12.
