Local Goodwill to sell celebrity-worn outfits
Thousands of items of clothing worn in the hit ABC television shows including "Lost," "The River" and "The Last Resort" were given to Goodwill.
They were worn by the stars and by the extras. The costumes helped tell the story of those lost on a mysterious island, the Amazon or running away on a rogue nuclear submarine.
Now the attire is being made available to the public. Sony studios had to clean house when they vacated the Diamond Head Studios at the beginning of the year.
The result was truckloads of clothing being given to Goodwill. Nearly 1000 items of clothing had to be sorted and tagged. And starting tomorrow, it's being distributed to four stores on Oahu.
"When you go through it, it's really interesting. You don't know who wore it, the story behind that clothing," said Rick Kuwahara, director of marketing and communications for Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. "You never know. When you're watching reruns one day, you'll be wearing a T-shirt and you'll look up and there it is on TV."
The shirts, dresses, pants, even children's clothing, will have special tags. The prices range from $4 to $15. The clothes will also be on specially marked clothes racks in the stores.
It's a win-win for fans. All the revenue from the sale of the clothes goes directly to support Goodwill's programs.
"It goes right back into our human services program which helps with our job training and job placement programs. So we're able to serve a lot of people through these donations and every year we're serving over 15,000 individuals," said Kuwahara.
The four Goodwill stores where you'll find the TV clothes are in Kaimuki, Aiea, Wahiawa and at the Beretania store. Click here for the exact addresses of those locations.
